Compassion International

Many members of our church have adopted children through Compassion International. Some have children in Haiti. We have recently heard from Compassion that the children of sponsors within our church were not in the area of greatest destruction. I recommend that you follow this link and especially watch the video by the President of Compassion. Compassion Home Page

LaRomana

American Baptist Churches have supported the Good Samaritan Hospital at LaRomana, Dominican Republic. There is a close relationship between the work at LaRomana and Haiti. Maine folks have been there numerous times in the past and a group went tp LaRomana the first of February and they had the opportunity to go to Haiti and see first had the work of supplying the needs of the devastated area. .

We also have Kristy Engel, one of our American Baptist Missionaries who is right there involved in the efforts to help. See the updates and Kristy's accounts on the LaRomana Website.

West Bowdoin Baptist Church

We are encouraging our members to give as they are able. We are involved in several efforts that will help Haiti rebuild. We are making a quick call for assistance to put together baby care kits and personal hygiene kits. We hope to have our first effort completed by January 22. Contact Lyn Jordan for additional information (Tel. 353-2583) This effort is through Church World Service. You can find additional updates and resources at their web site.     http://www.churchworldservice.org/

Caution!

Unfortunately, there are some who are already taking advantage of the situation in Haiti. Know where your donations are going and be sure that the aid will reach those in most need.
